The Old Grocery Store
Travel back to the grocery store of the 1950s
Come by Den gamle Købmandshandel in Færgestræde in Nykøbing F. Step into a shop where the inventory comes from Skottemarke købmandshandel on Lolland. The grocer in Skottemarke opened his shop in the early 1900s. Here, customers could buy everything needed for their daily household: food, clothes, tools, paint, brandy, beer and soft drinks, clogs, spices, chocolate, sweets, bicycle tires and tar.
In 1955, grocer Jørgen Skaaning Larsen bought the shop, and it is from that time that a large part of the exhibited museum goods originate.
The first thing that hits you when you walk through the door of the small shop in Nykøbing is the aromatic smell of coffee. You have now traveled 50-60 years back in time. There are no shopping carts or self-service, but sweet and helpful commissioners who serve you according to the good, old principles of good customer service.
The old grocery store is able to deliver freshly ground coffee, tea, honey, wicker baskets, old-fashioned sweets, brown soap, soap flakes, cans, kerosene lamps, ceramics, old-fashioned toys and good handmade brushes.
The old grocery store is a living museum, built around the authentic inventory and inventory from Skottemarke Købmandshandel, which closed in 1987.
